A guide to a perfect engagement session in Houston

When starting your journey towards your engagement session you first have to pick the perfect photographer for you and your partner. Do some research and reach out to photographers in the area that match the style you are wanting. Engagement sessions capture such a special milestone in your life and you want to ensure it will be everything you have imagined, or better!

I personally specialize in capturing authentic moments that reflect the unique love story of each couple I work with. I also understand that many clients engagement session is their first time in front of the camera. Because of this, I make sure my couples are comfortable and informed. I guide my couples through prompts and movements to help you feel comfortable and also enable us to capture your true spark.

Next, we need to select a date that works for you. We can brainstorm this together to be able to find the perfect date. Being in Houston, we know there are some times of the year that are not ideal for being outdoors without a pool nearby but, if you can handle the weather changes it actually allows you flexibility to hold your engagement sessions during any time of the year! Of course, I highly recommend we book your session during golden hour. This is the final hour of light before the sun sets. The lighting during this time provides you with beautiful, creamy lighting and a gorgeous glow from the sun.

After our date is selected and booked, it is time to pick your location. I believe it is very important for my clients to select a location that represents them and their interests or is important to their relationship. I have a curated list with photo examples to make deciding easier than ever for both of you. If you have another idea for location that isn’t listed or is outside of the box that is okay, too! I am always up for an adventure!

An engagement

session shouldn’t be stressful, so leave it to me to help guide you through every step.

With the date and location selected, next we need to ensure that you will be comfortable. Some clients prefer to pop champagne and have a toast at the beginning of their session to help them relax. Others get their hair and makeup professionally done so they feel their absolute best. Occasionally, clients request assistance with colors and outfits - in that case, I am more than happy to send over my style guide and collaborate with you to ensure the colors will look great in the setting you have chosen.

Depending on the season, we want to ensure that you stay as cool or warm as possible. If we are holding our session in a warm month, it is always a great idea to have a towel with you to wipe away any excess sweat. Another great idea is to bring a small fan along to wear or hold while we walk from spot to spot. Lastly, I always encourage outfit changes as that adds diversity to your gallery but, it also allows you to change your clothes if you have gotten too hot in your first outfit!

Overall, your engagement session should be an amazing experience and almost a trial run for your bride and groom portraits. This session should make you feel comfortable and excited and I would love to be the photographer to help you achieve that!
